Chennai Kidathon has emerged as one of the most anticipated events since it’s inception. There aren’t many runs specially dedicated to the young runners, combining the sport with a bucket loads of fun, like the Kidathon. Ever growing in popularity and numbers the event needed an upgrade in the venue as well and the wonderful Jawaharlal Nehru stadium was aptly hosting it’s latest avatar.

Chennai’s own, spin starting the event.
Organizing an event of this caliber needed extreme teamwork and toil. The organizers and the volunteer team had their hands full with preparing the track, setting up timers, managing the different categories and in general handling the wonderful but very notorious runners.
It’s not everyday that as a kid you get to run on a standard athletic track, in a stadium setup, with spectators and your own family watching, so when the opportunity did arrive, the energy levels were off the stadium roof. While a few of course ran for fun, the majority was running to win.
The Jawaharlal Nehru stadium makes for a wonderful arena for sports, grand and stunningly picturesque. The weather on the fine Sunday afternoon was better than pleasant for Chennai and the sky was a colorful display of colors. Pretty appropriate.
The best part of being with a kid is that you get to be one for sometime. Away from the run of the mill work, the household and the worldly worries, they make you lose yourself, even if it’s for a little while. The parents and the viewers shared the excitement, the effort and the achivent after the finish with the young ones. The kid inside you never really goes away!
We all have wished every so often to be kids again. Events like these give everybody an opportunity to be so. High on spirits, emotions and enthusiasm, a not so usual Sunday spent over running, bonding, cheering and just being a kid again.
