One of the rare marathons to start late afternoon. The organisers did warn in the marathon description on the website that ‘ it will be hot’ and it certainly was. Animals and humans searched for the shade alike, cycles sunbathed and runners got soaked pre marathon. This was going to be a daunting task.

Temperatures high, humidity higher, competitors tough, terrain tougher,it was going to need more than the usual practice and preparation runs to master this one.
Runners crossed the bridge over a stream on the route that connected to the small village which on a lazy Sunday afternoon was more than ready to greet and cheer the party. 7 kilometers into the blazing sun, the runners were in for a very very pleasant surprise. The kids hurdled, looked on, cheered, Hi-5ed and ran along everyone crossing their little hometown. The unexpected warmth and support from the locals made the latter part of a very strenuous run seem a bit of fun, not easy, but a bit more fun.Write your story here. (Optional)
To take on a challenge like this, with a white cane and a helper needs more than just determination. The much needed inspiration on the way.
As if to sum up the marathon, the last stretch of the route that was 21 kilometers but felt much longer, was marked with one last tenacious climb overlooking the Kundalika river. One last gasp, one last act of defiance.
‘You deserve it’, a phrase generally overused, almost too causally most of the times, couldn’t fit more aptly into a situation like it did for the post-race celebrations and the serenity that the night brought.
One of those marathons you have to be in, to believe what it offered to and demanded from a runner. Enthralling, would be an understatement.
