Khargar Hills.

A new marathon route was hosting it’s first ever marathon. Runners were in for a surprise, both visually and physically. At just an hour drive from Mumbai (of course without traffic), yet known only to a few, Khargar Hills provided for a Marathon intense in nature, ornate in view and unforgettable to be a part of.

THE CITY BEFORE THE MOUNTAIN

Mumbai and the areas around the city come with a nostalgic charm, with the pinch of the old and the glimpse of the future. The track for the race ascertained that. From handcarts and old autos to the sublime metro overhead bridges and skyscrapers, from roads suffering with potholes to sparkling clean runway kinds around the Khargar Valley Golf Course, it was a perfect mix.

People in the city

A considerable amount of people were up for a Sunday morning in the city. Few went about their work unbuzzed, few stopped and watched and a lot of kids joined in the run with their small steps matching the runners’.

The first sight of the mountains was more than overwhelming. After running through the city, the long uphill climb began with the road passing through two mammoth cliffs that stood as the entrance to the mountain leg of the race. Beautiful, intimidating and breathtaking (literally).

The daunting uphill has was worth all the effort. The mountain top opened up to stunning scenes and routes that one wouldn’t believe were at an hour drive away from the busiest city in the country. A lot of people ran in groups, others with a loved one and a few just with the mountain.
