NAGAR RISING MARATHON.
The new challenge.
the evening before.
Ahmednagar presented the marathon fraternity a new route in 2015 and the runners had a lot of praises for it. This year we were told that the route got a make over and challenge had been upped. On our recce the evening before the race. the reasons for the buzz among the runners were evident. Streets, highways, beast of an uphill, tricky downhill, the route’s new inclusions effortlessly enticed the serious runners and the inquisitive enthusiasts alike. With the last point of the run being Salabat Khab tomb on the Shah Dongar hill, the sunset and the city from the hilltop were both spectacular.
the beast uphill.
Post the highway as one looks up at the climb from the foothill. The race is set pre-monsoon, hence the area has seen no rainfall for over 9 months, that makes the already daunting gradient look even more difficult. The scarce vegetation on the hill has no signs of green, the sun is slowly creeping up over the windmills at a distance and in that moment you instantly realize that there are going to be no pleasantries offered on the way up climbing this monster.
on the highway
By now one has gone straight, gone up and scurried down, legs and the body find it hard to adjust to the change in terrains, sun is at it’s higher temperatures and the highway with almost barren lands on both the sides can be a lonely place to find yourself in, if you are lagging. It is however the last change in the course and the finishing line awaits.
moments.
Various categories meant that the marathon meant different for different runners. Everyone had their own reasons and targets, everyone had their own moments. All the runners found the half marathon task difficult, seasoned runners had to dig in extra, the new signees got a first hand taste of the real challenge and the small distance runners had their fun on the route.
packing up.
